More about the pause. Less about the hustle.

A year ago in the studio, we realised something: we were tearing through coffee at a frightening rate. It started with curiosity, how could we get better-quality beans at a fair price? But like most things we do, one question led to another, and soon we weren’t just buying more coffee, we were talking about roasting our own.

Fast-forward 12 months, countless bags of beans tested, and a few roasting mishaps later: we landed on something we absolutely loved, Chocoberry. A natural Colombian coffee made from a blend of Castillo, Caturra, and Colombia beans. Naturally processed to keep all that rich sweetness locked in. Think strawberry jam. Dark cacao. A mellow, layered cup designed to slow you down just a little. It felt like our coffee.

When that first 70kg sack of green beans arrived, we felt it. Equal parts fear and excitement. This was more than a side project now.

We knew we needed a name, but not just a cool name. It had to mean something. We started looking at what coffee had become for us, those moments of winding down, early mornings with no rush, the quiet ritual of brewing, the slow reset. That feeling of stepping outside, breathing deep, hands wrapped around a warm cup. That’s when it clicked: Pattern.

Because everyone has their rhythm.
And this, right here, is the sweet spot.

Pattern Coffee — Daily sweet spot.

Trademark filed. Cleared. We were off.

Then came the packaging.

It had to feel different. Something you’d keep on your worktop, not hide in a cupboard. We chose a beautiful textured rice paper bag, and paired it with a custom die-cut sleeve that gives it a striking, tactile presence. The shape, the materials, the finish, every detail mattered.

We flew to London to see it come to life. Watching the first foil stamp hit the paper felt surreal. Even the printers were excited about it. That’s when it all stopped feeling like an idea and became something you could touch.

From there, it was time to bring it online. Shopify was a no-brainer, simple, scalable, and perfect for what we needed. When the first orders came through, we all felt like kids on Christmas Eve.

Speaking of Christmas, it feels like the perfect moment for Pattern. Not just for gifting, but because the holidays are full of exactly what Pattern stands for, slowing down, gathering round, checking out of the noise, and back into what matters.

We didn’t launch Pattern to “break into coffee” or become a big player. We launched it because creativity needs room to breathe. We wanted a brand that wasn’t about fuelling more hustle but giving people permission to pause. This has been our sandbox for messing around, testing ideas, and having fun putting our own thinking into practice, just like we do for the brands we work with.

This is just the first chapter of Pattern Coffee. And if it ends the year in a few more hands and a few more quiet moments, we’ll count that as a win.

Stay tuned.
